A surprising daylight robbery in Ayodhya saw a burqa-clad woman make off with a gold chain worth approximately Rs 3.6 lakh. The incident occurred around 12:30 pm in the Kothi Bazar area on Thursday.
The accused, identified as 21-year-old Payal Kori, entered a jewelry shop and, after distracting the staff, seized a gold necklace and chain. She then brandished a pistol, later revealed to be a toy gun, and fled on a motorcycle driven by her boyfriend, Rahul Kumar (27).
Police teams swiftly reviewed CCTV footage, leading to the arrest of both suspects near the Barabanki border as they attempted to leave the district. Officials noted the robbery was meticulously planned, with the couple using a disguise and a toy pistol, drawing inspiration from the movie 'Bunty Aur Babli'.
Payal, who is pregnant, had recently returned to Ayodhya for her intermediate examinations. The couple reportedly confessed to planning the heist to fund their desire to purchase a house, having also scouted locations in neighboring areas. Rahul had purchased the burqa and toy gun for the crime.
