24 Mar
Summary
- Police oppose axe-throwing venue's alcohol license application.
- Concerns raised about potential reckless behavior with weapons.
- Venue seeks to sell alcohol until 11 PM daily.

A Consett-based entertainment venue, Rage It Out, is seeking permission to serve alcohol to customers. The venue, which offers axe-throwing and rage room experiences, applied to Durham County Council for an alcohol license. However, their request has met with opposition from Durham Police.
Police express significant concerns that allowing alcohol consumption on the premises could escalate risks. They highlighted the potential for "reckless or unsafe behavior" when alcohol is combined with activities involving weapons and aggression. The force also warned of possible disputes and misuse of equipment.
James Lillistone, a director for Rage It Out, applied to sell alcohol until 11 PM. He assured that any patron appearing under the influence would be prevented from participating in the activities, and alcohol would be strictly prohibited within the axe-throwing and rage room areas. The licensing committee is expected to review these concerns.
