On September 25, a 34-year-old autorickshaw driver was arrested in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, for the rape and murder of a sex worker in Mumbai's Malad area. According to the police, the incident took place on September 25 in the Malad area of the city.
The police received a call about a woman lying unconscious at Sawant Compound in Church Road. When the police team arrived, they rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead. The autopsy revealed that the woman, a sex worker, had been strangled to death.
Examining CCTV footage, the police identified the accused as an autorickshaw driver and the victim as a commercial sex worker. The video footage showed the autorickshaw driver killing the victim using her 'dupatta' (long veil) after a financial dispute between them.
After the police found that the accused was from Agra and was hiding in Mathura, a team of investigators was sent there. The man was arrested and, during interrogation, he admitted to committing the crime. He is now being brought to Mumbai on a transit remand.
