Aussie Jailed 12 Years for Bali Cocaine Smuggling

An Australian national, Lamar Aaron Ahchee, was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by an Indonesian court on Thursday, December 18, 2025, for drug smuggling charges related to cocaine found on the tourist island of Bali. The court found Ahchee, 43, guilty of possessing and intending to distribute narcotics. Police apprehended Ahchee in May at his rented villa near Kuta beach, seizing 1.7 kilograms of cocaine packaged in 206 small plastic bags. The arrest followed an investigation into suspicious mail packages Ahchee had received from England, prompting allegations of importing narcotics into Indonesia. During the sentencing, the judges cited the large quantity of cocaine and its potential harm to Bali's tourism as aggravating factors. Ahchee denied knowledge of the package's contents. Indonesia maintains strict drug laws, with many foreigners and locals facing severe penalties, including the death penalty, for drug-related offenses.
