Early Sunday morning, a violent incident unfolded at Buford's, a popular beer garden in Austin's entertainment district. Austin Police received a call reporting a shooting at approximately 1:39 a.m. First responders arrived on the scene within an astonishing 57 seconds.
Upon arriving, police encountered an armed suspect and subsequently returned fire, resulting in the suspect's death. Tragically, three individuals were confirmed dead at the scene. Another 14 people sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Of the 14 injured individuals, three were in critical condition. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson commended the rapid and effective response of the police and emergency medical services, stating their actions were instrumental in saving lives following the chaotic event.
