A former Air Force intelligence officer has admitted to lying to authorities when she accused her astronaut ex-wife of accessing her bank account from space. Summer Heather Worden, 50, pleaded guilty last week, concluding a lengthy legal battle.
In 2019, Worden alleged that her estranged wife, astronaut Anne McClain, had guessed her password to illegally access a personal bank account while aboard the International Space Station. This groundbreaking accusation prompted inquiries from federal agencies, including NASA's Inspector General and the Federal Trade Commission.
However, investigations revealed that Worden had, in fact, provided McClain access to her accounts since 2015 to manage their shared finances. Prosecutors had accused Worden of misrepresenting when she opened the account and changed her login details. McClain has consistently stated that she had permission for these financial activities. Worden is scheduled for sentencing on February 12, 2026, and faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
