Assam's intensified crackdown on fake medical practitioners has led to the arrest of 62 individuals and the registration of 59 criminal cases over the past year. The state government is resolute in its mission to protect public safety and eradicate illegal medical activities, emphasizing that no attempt to endanger lives will be tolerated. This drive follows extensive enforcement actions against drug syndicates and child marriage offenders.
The statewide operation, initiated in August of the previous year, has seen significant action, including over 20 arrests in Cachar district alone. Investigations revealed that some accused were posing as senior physicians and surgeons in reputable private hospitals despite lacking recognized medical qualifications.
Recent arrests in Cachar include Bikran Sinha and Biswajit Sinha, who allegedly operated clinics without proper credentials. They face charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including criminal breach of trust, cheating, and forgery. Authorities are continuing investigations to determine any links to larger networks of fake practitioners operating within Assam.
