27 Sep
Summary
- ASP Mukesh Kumar Soni arrested for alleged Rs 2 crore bribe.
- Bribe was to allegedly help suspects in Udaipur 272-plot scam.
- Middleman caught with cash after arranging officer meeting.
Jaipur: Special Operations Group (SOG) Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mukesh Kumar Soni was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday, September 24, 2026. This follows the arrest of his alleged middleman, Sajjan Singh Jain, on Saturday, September 23, 2026, with Rs 2 crore in cash. The funds were allegedly demanded to provide relief to individuals implicated in the Udaipur 272-plot scam.
ACB's preliminary investigation indicates Soni met the complainant in Udaipur after Jain arranged the encounter to build trust. Jain had demanded Rs 2 crore from the complainant to settle the case. The complainant requested to meet Soni to confirm Jain was acting on the officer's behalf.
The scam involves suspected irregularities with 272 plots registered in 2022. Officials and municipal corporation employees allegedly colluded to forge documents, obtain lease deeds, and mutation records for these plots. Some plots, transferred to the municipal corporation in 2012, were allegedly encroached upon, had forged documents prepared, and were sold via middlemen.
Soni's past postings are also being examined. In 2022, the Rajasthan High Court ordered his transfer from the Ajmer range amid allegations of favouring an accused in a narcotics case. He was briefly posted with the SOG's Ajmer unit in 2024 before moving to the SOG's Udaipur unit in November 2025.
