A significant breakthrough has been made in the 15-year-old cold case of Ashley Okland, a 27-year-old Iowa Realtor. Kristin Ramsey, 53, was arrested on March 17, 2026, and charged with first-degree murder following an indictment by a Dallas County grand jury.
Okland was killed on April 8, 2011, when she was shot twice while showing a model townhouse in West Des Moines. Her death generated widespread attention, prompting extensive investigations that included reviewing nearly 900 leads and interviewing approximately 500 individuals over the years. Information from playing cards distributed to inmates and a dedicated cold case unit by the Iowa Attorney General's office may have contributed to the recent developments.
Ashley Okland, originally from Huxley, was remembered for her vibrant personality and dedication to community service. She was a graduate of Iowa State University and began her real estate career in 2007. A playground for handicapped children was named in her honor in May 2014, reflecting her passion for helping children. The Young Professionals Connection also established an award in her name to recognize community service.
Ramsey is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2 million cash bond. Police planned a news conference for Wednesday morning to provide further details regarding the charge.
