A woman on trial for her alleged role in an arson attack that destroyed an elderly woman's home claims she drove at slow speeds to avoid points on her license. Storm Truman, 19, stated she was pregnant and drove four men to the property in Ferndale in the early hours of July 28. The court heard that 82-year-old Carol Ford's home was targeted because of a relative's drug debts.
Truman denies arson and endangering life, asserting she was unaware of the plan. She described feeling scared and anxious around one of the men, Connor Pitt, whom she knew had a notorious reputation. She stated she punched her boyfriend, Alfie Wheeler, upon seeing the fire, expressing distress over her pregnancy.
Prosecutors allege Truman served as a getaway driver, making her equally responsible. The court heard that Pitt and others retrieved items from Truman's car boot before setting the house ablaze. When fleeing the scene, Truman told the court she slowed down for a 20mph zone with a speed camera, fearing license points, despite demands to drive faster. The group was apprehended by police in Cardiff.
