In a chilling echo of past violence, Travis Lewis, a man previously convicted for the 1996 murders of Martha McKay's mother and cousin, was responsible for McKay's death in 2020. The horrific incident took place at the Snowden House, a historic estate in Hughes, Arkansas, where McKay had lovingly restored and operated a bed and breakfast. Lewis had been convicted as a teenager for the initial murders, though he maintained his innocence.
Despite the brutal crimes, McKay had developed a relationship with Lewis, even advocating for his parole. After his release in 2018, she hired him to work on her property. However, their association soured approximately a year and a half later when $10,000 vanished from the sale of a chandelier. McKay subsequently fired Lewis, who was later found to be the perpetrator of her murder.
When authorities arrived at the Snowden House on March 25, 2020, Lewis attempted to flee but ultimately drowned in the nearby lake. The discovery of his body confirmed his role in McKay's death, bringing a tragic closure to a cycle of violence that spanned over two decades and claimed three lives connected to the Snowden House.
