Student Murdered Over Rs 1 Lakh Debt; Killers Get Life Sentence

An Aligarh court has handed down life sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the kidnapping and murder of a 19-year-old student in 2021. The conviction, presided over by additional district and sessions judge Ravish Kumar Atri, found Yogendra and Pradeep guilty of kidnapping, murder, destruction of evidence, and criminal conspiracy.
The motive behind the heinous crime was reportedly a long-standing financial dispute between the victim's father and the family of one of the accused over an unpaid loan of Rs 1 lakh. The student, Hrithik, disappeared from his home on July 15, 2021. Subsequently, his family received a ransom demand of Rs 10 lakh.
Investigators traced the ransom call to a minor accomplice, who then implicated Yogendra and Pradeep. The victim's body was recovered on July 29 from a drain near a private school, concealed within a plastic sack among garbage. Proceedings against the minor accomplice are ongoing in a separate court.
