Alex Jones' Judgment Slashed by $44M in Texas
21 Aug
Summary
- Texas court reduced a $50 million judgment to $6 million.
- Punitive damages were slashed to comply with state caps.
- Jones still faces over a billion dollars in liability.

In a significant legal development, a Texas appeals court on Friday reduced a $50 million judgment against Alex Jones, founder of Infowars, to approximately $6 million. This ruling concerns Jones' false claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting was a hoax.
The court upheld over $4.1 million in compensatory damages awarded to Sandy Hook parents Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis for defamation and emotional distress. However, it drastically cut more than $45 million in punitive damages down to $1.5 million to adhere to Texas's statutory cap of $750,000 per plaintiff.
This Texas ruling does not affect the separate $1.25 billion judgment Jones faces in Connecticut. Despite multiple financial judgments, Jones has yet to make payments, as he is appealing the amounts and efforts to liquidate his company, Free Speech Systems. His legal team intends to appeal further to the state Supreme Court, while victims' families' attorneys deem the Texas decision largely irrelevant given the massive overall liability Jones still faces.
