A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for a terrifying incident at Washington Tavern in Albany. Hector Gomez terrorized about a dozen patrons with a 9mm pistol in the early morning hours of February 8, 2025. He was later ordered to serve five years of post-release supervision.
Surveillance footage from the bar and a patron's phone captured Gomez brandishing the firearm, pointing it at individuals, and making threats. Prosecutors stated he threatened to 'kill everyone in here' after his advances toward a woman were rebuffed. He also fired two shots outside the establishment before fleeing.
Gomez, who has three prior felony convictions, pleaded guilty to felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. His defense attorney noted a recent family tragedy, but the judge expressed concern over Gomez's self-defense claims in his pre-sentencing report.
