Autism Mom Charged in Son's Tragic Blanket Strangulation
20 Mar
Summary
- Mother arrested for alleged neglect of two autistic sons.
- One son died from accidental strangulation by a blanket.
- Home reportedly lacked basic amenities and had severe unsanitary conditions.

Amanda Morgan, a 39-year-old Alabama woman, has been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated child abuse. These charges stem from the death of her 14-year-old son, who was found deceased in their Mobile home on October 8, 2025. Investigators discovered significant signs of neglect within the residence.
Authorities allege that Morgan left both her 14-year-old and 16-year-old sons, both diagnosed with autism, home alone overnight. The younger son's death was ruled an accidental strangulation due to a blanket around his neck. At the time of his death, the 16-year-old son was hospitalized for malnutrition.
Witnesses testified about the dire living conditions in Morgan's home, describing a lack of running water and air conditioning, as well as insect infestations and human waste. Morgan's bond has been set at $40,000 for the abuse charge and $400,000 for the murder charge. She is currently in custody and scheduled for arraignment on March 24, 2026.
