AIIMS Students Arrested in Classmate's Suicide
15 Mar
Summary
- Five AIIMS Rajkot MBBS students arrested for abetment to suicide.
- Victim's father alleged continuous harassment led to his son's death.
- Accused students were allowed to attend final exams in custody.

Five final-year MBBS students at AIIMS Rajkot were arrested on March 15, 2026, on charges of abetting the suicide of their peer, Ratan Kumar Meghwal, 26. The complaint was filed by Meghwal's father following his son's death on March 14, 2026.
Authorities revealed that Meghwal died by suicide near Rajkot after allegedly being physically and mentally harassed by fellow students since January 2026. A 17-page note left by Meghwal detailed these accusations and requested it be treated as his dying declaration.
The arrested students, three from Rajasthan, one from Haryana, and one from Gujarat, appeared in court and were remanded to judicial custody. Notably, the court permitted them to attend their final MBBS examinations, scheduled to begin on March 17, 2026, while in police custody.
Police sources indicated that Meghwal had previously attempted suicide in January 2026, naming the same students in a note. However, no formal complaint was filed by his family at that time, preventing legal action.
The investigation into the alleged harassment and suicide abetment is ongoing, with the case now handled by the SC/ST Cell.
