Judge Slams Lawyer's AI Filings as 'Slop'
18 Sep
Summary
- Court found attorney's filings contained 'AI slop.'
- Filings lacked independent professional judgment.
- Sanctions considered for "frivolous, scattershot arguments."

A Florida appeals court is considering sanctions against a family-law attorney for court filings described as "AI slop." The West Palm Beach-based 4th District Court of Appeal panel noted the filings contained "frivolous, scattershot arguments" and lacked independent professional judgment, a duty for all attorneys.
While the judges did not identify AI-induced errors or hallucinations, they criticized the "slop" for being lengthy, unfocused, and containing "gibberish." The court stated that such filings resemble those from "vexatious pro se litigants" and appear designed to cause delay, threatening the administration of justice.
The attorney, Jaclyn Soroka, has been ordered to respond within 10 days regarding why she should not face sanctions. The court emphasized that regardless of whether AI was used, assisted, or not at all, attorneys must stand behind their submitted court documents.
