The unsolved murder of Melanie Hall, a nightclubber who vanished in 1996, is undergoing a fresh investigation by Avon and Somerset Police, dubbed Operation Denmark. This new review, 30 years after her disappearance, is leveraging advanced Artificial Intelligence technology to analyze the case.
Melanie Hall was last seen at Cadillacs nightclub in Bath in the early hours of June 9, 1996. Her remains were not discovered until October 5, 2009, near Thornbury, Gloucestershire, over 18 years after she was last seen. She had sustained a violent assault, and her body was found bound in bin bags.
Detectives are digitizing approximately 90 crates of evidence, with AI tools like Söze being considered to accelerate the analysis. This technology has previously demonstrated the ability to solve complex cases significantly faster than human detectives. The investigation has narrowed down persons of interest from around 100 to fewer than 20, with alibis being re-examined.
