Agra Cops Guilty of Farmer Torture

A departmental inquiry in Agra has found three police personnel, including Kirawali Station House Officer Neeraj Singh, guilty of custodial torture. The accused, along with sub-inspector Dharmveer Singh and constable Ravi Malik, allegedly tortured farmer Raju Sharma on December 21 of last year. Sharma was reportedly taken to Kirawali police station in connection with a murder case and subjected to severe physical abuse, including being hung upside down and thrashed for an hour, causing multiple injuries.

The victim's family reported that police initially downplayed Sharma's condition, admitting him to a private hospital with claims of minor bruises. They also alleged that the police tried to cover up the incident by offering Rs 10,000 to the family. Following the family's complaint to local representatives, a deeper investigation was initiated.

Following an examination of medical reports and further inquiries, police commissioner Deepak Kumar has been presented with the inquiry findings. Consequently, ACP Achhnera Rampravesh Gupta was transferred, and the three accused officers were suspended. Official confirmation and further disciplinary actions are awaiting the police commissioner's approval.
