A special SC/ST Act court in Agra has delivered a life sentence to a woman, her lover, and his brother for the June 2021 murder of her husband, a shoe factory owner. The court's decision heavily relied on the powerful testimony of the victim's nine-year-old daughter.
The convicts, Pramita (33), Ravikant Rajput (31), and Shashikant Rajput (34), were each fined ₹1.1 lakh. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional year of imprisonment.
Naresh Kumar, the victim, was found bludgeoned to death with a brick on June 8, 2021, his body discovered in a sack near his home. Post-mortem reports indicated 14 injuries.
The turning point in the case was the daughter's account. She testified that her mother had confined her and her siblings before an altercation. The child later observed bloodstains and recognized the voices of the accused brothers.
Supported by the child's testimony, technical evidence, and witness statements, the court convicted the trio in a case that concluded five years after the crime.
