Dawood Safi, a 28-year-old Afghan migrant, has been convicted of attempted murder and the fatal stabbing of a dog walker. The incidents occurred in Uxbridge, west London, in October 2025. Safi admitted to the manslaughter of Wayne Broadhurst, attributing his actions to diminished responsibility stemming from a psychotic state.
Safi also faced charges for attempting to murder his landlord, Shahzad Farrukh, whom he stabbed in the neck. The jury is still deliberating on a separate charge of attempted murder against a 14-year-old boy attacked during the same rampage. Safi admitted to grievous bodily harm with intent against Mr. Farrukh and actual bodily harm against the teenager.
Evidence presented indicated Safi suffered a severe mental health collapse, experiencing paranoia and delusions. He arrived in the UK in 2020, initially claiming to be 17, and was granted asylum in 2022. He reported witnessing his father's murder in Afghanistan at age 10.
In the days leading up to the stabbings, Safi had sought help from his GP, a hospital, and the police, but his mental health continued to deteriorate.
