Trevez Richards, the former municipal court administrator for Acworth, has been arrested and charged with 21 felony offenses, including racketeering and burglary. Investigators allege that Richards misappropriated more than $500,000 in cash bonds over a year. The funds were reportedly taken from a secure city lockbox.
Following the discovery of financial discrepancies, the City of Acworth launched an internal review. Richards was placed on administrative leave on May 5, 2025, and resigned the next day. To ensure a thorough investigation, the city requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Cobb County District Attorney's Office.
Richards was apprehended on July 9, 2026, by the Cobb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Squad. The arrest followed a peaceful standoff at his residence, observed by neighbors. Acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood expressed disappointment and betrayal, stating the city has zero tolerance for misconduct.
