In a harrowing tale, actress Eva LaRue and her daughter Kaya Callahan have recounted their 12-year ordeal of being tormented by a relentless stalker. The nightmare began in 2007 when LaRue, then 40 and a single mother, started receiving chilling letters signed "Freddie Krueger," containing graphic threats of rape, torture, and murder.
The letters continued for years, with the stalker evading capture as he mailed them from different post offices, making it difficult to trace their origins. LaRue and Callahan lived in constant fear, moving multiple times in hopes of losing their pursuer, but the letters always followed. The strain on their family was immense, leading to LaRue's divorce in 2014.
In 2019, the case finally broke open when authorities used genetic genealogy to identify the stalker as 58-year-old James David Rogers from Ohio. Rogers pleaded guilty in 2022 and was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison. LaRue and Callahan are now speaking out to raise awareness about the "epidemic" of stalking, which affects an estimated 13.5 million people in the U.S. each year.
