Actor's Abuse of Power: Life Sentence Served

Nathan Chasing Horse, an actor recognized for his role in "Dances With Wolves," has been sentenced to life imprisonment. This sentence follows his conviction on multiple charges, primarily related to sexual assault, by a Nevada jury. He was accused by three women, one of whom was a minor at the time the assaults began in 2012. The victims and their families conveyed to the judge that they continue to grapple with the trauma and have experienced a loss of faith due to Chasing Horse's misuse of his position as a spiritual leader.

Chasing Horse was initially arrested and indicted in 2023, leading to a prolonged prosecution effort. His arrest prompted law enforcement in other states and Canada to pursue additional criminal charges, which are still pending. In February 2023, he was charged with sexual assault in British Columbia, Canada, with the alleged offense occurring in September 2018. A warrant for his arrest also remains outstanding in Alberta, Canada.

During the trial, prosecutors asserted that Chasing Horse leveraged his reputation as a Lakota medicine man to victimize Indigenous women and girls over nearly two decades.
