Actor Erik von Detten is facing a lawsuit from an elderly couple who allege he defrauded them in gold coin transactions totaling more than $2 million. The San Diego-area couple, Sheila and Norman Greenberg, claim von Detten, while working for Rosland Capital, convinced them to invest retirement funds into gold coins between 2020 and 2021.
According to the lawsuit, the couple, aged 85 and 97, placed their trust in von Detten, who they believed was knowledgeable in precious metals and retirement accounts. They were allegedly assured he would make suitable recommendations for asset protection.
However, the couple discovered in 2025 that the gold coins were substantially overvalued, leading to considerable losses from their retirement savings. They are now seeking $900,000 in damages plus additional compensation to be determined at trial. Notably, Rosland Capital, von Detten's former employer, filed for bankruptcy in July 2026, with reported debts exceeding $63 million.
