Activist Gets 90 Days for 'Rescuing' Chickens
5 Dec
Summary
- Activist Zoe Rosenberg sentenced to 90 days in jail.
- She was convicted of felony conspiracy and trespassing charges.
- She rescued four chickens from a Perdue Farms subsidiary.

Zoe Rosenberg, an activist with Direct Action Everywhere, received a 90-day jail sentence following her conviction on felony conspiracy, trespassing, and other charges. The 23-year-old was found guilty after a seven-week trial for stealing four chickens from a Petaluma Poultry plant, a subsidiary of Perdue Farms. Rosenberg maintained her actions were a rescue mission for sick animals, but the jury convicted her in October.
Rosenberg, who disguised herself to take the birds and posted a video of the incident, will report to jail on December 10th. Her sentence includes potential jail alternatives like house arrest, and she faces two years of probation with a restriction from all Perdue facilities in Sonoma County. The animal rights group DxE, which placed the chickens in a sanctuary, has been labeled an extremist organization by Petaluma Poultry.
Petaluma Poultry asserts that the animals were not mistreated and that DxE aims to disrupt the animal agriculture industry. This conviction follows a prior case where a DxE co-founder was found guilty for involvement in factory farm protests in the area. Rosenberg stated she does not regret her actions, emphasizing her commitment to animal welfare.
