Acid Attack Victim's Final Words: 'I Ain't Got No Money'

A man who was fatally attacked with sulphuric acid had told police he was in severe financial distress, struggling to afford rent due to gambling debts. The victim, Danny Cahalane, 38, was assaulted at his home in Plymouth on February 21 of last year.

The attack occurred in the context of a substantial £120,000 debt owed to a drug kingpin. Cahalane died from his injuries approximately 10 weeks after the incident, on May 3, 2025.

From his hospital bed, Cahalane described being woken by two attackers, one of whom he stabbed with a screwdriver. He then had acid thrown in his face as he tried to escape. He recalled the attackers demanding money, to which he responded, "I ain't got no money."

Before his passing, Cahalane shared with police that he had experienced an "epiphany" and wished for a more peaceful life structured around his daughter, whom he described as his world.

Ten individuals are currently on trial, facing charges that include murder, manslaughter, attempted kidnapping, and involvement in a drug supply gang. They have all denied the charges, and the trial is ongoing.
