Acid Attack Victim's Final Words: 'I Ain't Got No Money'

A man who was fatally attacked with sulphuric acid had told police he was in severe financial distress, struggling to afford rent due to gambling debts. The victim, Danny Cahalane, 38, was assaulted at his home in Plymouth on February 21 of last year.

The attack occurred in the context of a substantial £120,000 debt owed to a drug kingpin. Cahalane died from his injuries approximately 10 weeks after the incident, on May 3, 2025.

From his hospital bed, Cahalane described being woken by two attackers, one of whom he stabbed with a screwdriver. He then had acid thrown in his face as he tried to escape. He recalled the attackers demanding money, to which he responded, "I ain't got no money."
