Prior to this incident, Dorisme had served prison time for aggravated child abuse in 2021 and faced trespassing charges. State prosecutors announced their intent to seek the death penalty against him for multiple severe charges, including first-degree murder, kidnapping, and sexual battery.
Dorisme was indicted by a grand jury in August 2024. Initially found not mentally fit to stand trial in September 2024, he was later deemed competent in 2025.
