- Choi's ex-husband and in-laws are on trial for her killing.
- Choi's body parts were found in a house with tools for dismemberment.
The murder trial of Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi commenced on Wednesday, with prosecutors asserting that a family dispute over money was the primary motive. Choi's ex-husband, Alex Kwong, and his father and brother, Kwong Kau and Anthony Kwong, are accused of her killing and have pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors detailed that tensions escalated when Choi, who financially supported her former in-laws, attempted to sell a HK$60 million apartment owned by Kwong Kau. This plan reportedly angered Kwong Kau, who allegedly plotted with his sons to murder Choi. Each son is accused of playing a role in her death and the subsequent dismemberment.
Choi was reported missing on February 21, 2023, and body parts believed to be hers were recovered three days later at a residence in Tai Po. Police also found a meat slicer and an electric saw at the scene. The Kwong family members were arrested shortly after the discovery. The trial is expected to last at least eight weeks.
