8-Year-Old Saves Dad's Life After Overdose: Heroic Child Administers Narcan

In a tragic incident that unfolded on November 11th, a 44-year-old Edgewater man named Daniel Johnson overdosed on heroin in his garage. Fortunately, Johnson had previously instructed his 8-year-old son on how to use Narcan, the opioid overdose reversal drug, in case something like this were to happen.

When the unthinkable occurred, the young boy sprang into action, administering the Narcan to his father and also calling 911 to summon emergency medical assistance. Thanks to the child's quick thinking and bravery, Johnson was transported to a hospital and survived the overdose.

However, the Volusia Sheriff's Office has charged Johnson with child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The boy's grandmother has since taken custody of the child, who has been forced to endure a traumatic experience no young person should ever have to face. Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood commended the boy's courage, acknowledging that his actions undoubtedly saved his father's life, despite the tragic circumstances.
