Innocent Man Jailed 36 Days for Uncommitted Crimes
2 Sep
Summary
- Seven defendants were released after a judge found no probable cause.
- A man spent 36 days in jail for crimes he insists he did not commit.
- A fender bender allegedly led to charges of armed robbery and battery.

In a recent probable cause bond hearing, a Cobb County judge dismissed charges against seven individuals who had been held for over 30 days. One of these individuals, Cristian Cuevas, stated he was unjustly incarcerated for 36 days, resulting in the loss of his job and significant mental distress.
These arrests occurred in July when Cobb County Police apprehended 12 people, including a minor. Investigators reported that a minor traffic accident escalated into an armed robbery, leading to charges of armed robbery, aggravated battery, and terroristic threats. The defense contends that the sole evidence was a vague identification placing defendants near the incident.
While charges against two defendants remain active, and two others had some charges dropped, the dismissal for the seven highlights concerns about wrongful detentions. Criminal defense attorneys expressed that innocent people are being held without sufficient evidence, undermining the principle of 'innocent until proven guilty.' The Cobb County Police Department has not yet responded to allegations.
