- The suspect was jailed for 18.5 years for drug offenses.
- Detectives found the intervention from 50 Cent shocking.

Derby detectives expressed shock after US rapper 50 Cent wrote to a judge in a cocaine trafficking investigation. The musician requested bail for Abdirahiim Hassan, an arrested suspect, so he could work on 50 Cent's Legacy Tour. Hassan, 37, was sentenced to 18.5 years in prison on Friday after being found guilty of conspiracy to supply cocaine and possession of criminal property. He was described as substantially involved in national drug trafficking.
Evidence presented in court showed Hassan, also known as Samir, enjoyed a jet-setting lifestyle while working for an A-list musician. He was arrested after making multiple train trips to Derby to collect large sums of cash from Harminder Purewal, who supplied drugs to local organised crime groups. Purewal received a 20-year sentence for his role.
During the investigation, Hassan deposited £150,000 into his bank account and detectives found £22,500 in cash at his home. Assistant Chief Constable Ian Green noted Hassan was acting as a money-launderer. The bail application, supported by 50 Cent's letter detailing Hassan's critical role in tour operations, was ultimately denied by the judge.
