Federal investigators have identified an additional 35 women who may have been victims of Daejeon Love, who allegedly posed as a San Francisco 49ers player. This brings the total number of potential victims to 61. Love reportedly used dating apps and a fabricated online presence to convince women to invest money over a four-year period, from February 2022 until his arrest on August 24.
Love, 35, allegedly maintained in-person relationships while using social media to support his false persona as a professional athlete. His alleged co-conspirator, 18-year-old Taylor Chan, is accused of posing as Love's financial advisor and creating fraudulent bank documents. The pair were arrested at the Boise, Idaho, airport while reportedly en route to meet new targets.
Prosecutors state that Love and Chan defrauded victims across multiple states. The scheme initially involved 26 victims and $1.3 million, but the FBI is still assessing the total financial impact with the expanded victim pool. Federal Agent in Charge Doug Olson urged the public to show compassion to victims, noting that the sophisticated nature of the fraud involved calculated deception, manipulation, and social engineering.
