In a significant enforcement operation across nine districts, Tamil Nadu Police's Central Zone registered 3,284 cases against vehicles operating without registration number plates. This drive, conducted on Sunday, highlighted a growing challenge for law enforcement in identifying vehicles linked to accidents and criminal offenses.
The majority of the violations, 3,088 cases, involved two-wheelers, with an additional 196 cases booked against four-wheelers. The operation saw Karur reporting the highest number of offenses with 520 cases, followed closely by Pudukkottai and Trichy. This intensive check extended to highways and major junctions, indicating a comprehensive effort to ensure compliance.
Inspector-General of Police V. Balakrishnan stated that vehicles missing proper registration plates significantly hamper accident and criminal investigations. He urged vehicle owners to adhere to the Motor Vehicles Act. Police superintendents have been instructed to maintain daily checks and seize non-compliant vehicles until improvements are observed, signaling that this crackdown will continue.
