26 Jun
Summary
- Police arrested 28 women in a raid on two Silchar spas.
- Human trafficking suspected due to women from multiple states.
- Evidence of prostitution and illegal activities was recovered.

Police in Silchar, Assam, conducted a significant raid on Thursday night, targeting two spa centers, Lovely Spa and Lotus Spa. This operation resulted in the arrest of 28 women. Officials reported that while many individuals managed to escape, evidence gathered on-site substantiates allegations of prostitution and other illegal activities.
The arrested women, predominantly from outside Assam including Nagaland, have raised suspicions of an interstate human trafficking network. Cachar Additional Superintendent of Police Rajat Pal stated that investigations are ongoing to identify those who fled and to uncover the full extent of the suspected trafficking operations.
Charges invoked against the arrested women and absconding owners include sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. The women were presented before a district court, with police seeking their custodial remand for further interrogation.
