A woman endured 25 years of captivity and enslavement in a squalid home in Tewkesbury. The victim, who has learning difficulties, was lured into the horrific ordeal at age 16 by Mandy Wixon, 56. Wixon subjected her to appalling abuse, including beatings and being forced to live on scraps.
Wixon profited significantly, cashing in on the victim's benefits for thousands of pounds over two decades. The victim was forced to clean constantly, often on her hands and knees, in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions. She was also denied basic hygiene and adequate food.
The victim's suffering only came to light in 2021 when she managed to use a hidden phone to contact authorities. Upon discovery, she expressed profound fear, stating she did not feel safe. Despite the severe abuse, Wixon denied the charges.
Wixon was convicted of assault, false imprisonment, and forced labour. A neighbour reported repeated calls to social services, expressing dismay that nothing was done. The victim is now recovering and attending college.
