21-Year-Old Gunman Kills Two in North Augusta Convenience Store Heist

According to a report from North Augusta Public Safety, a deadly armed robbery occurred at a convenience store in North Augusta, South Carolina on October 26th. The suspect, 21-year-old J'Shawn Deontae Dukes, is alleged to have killed two individuals during the crime.
When officers arrived at the Sprint Gas station on Edgefield Road, they reportedly observed Dukes carrying a rifle. After being ordered to drop his weapon, Dukes aimed it at the officers. Cpl. Dillon Givens of North Augusta Public Safety then discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.
The two victims killed in the incident were 76-year-old Jewel Harden and 33-year-old Thomas Brandt Jr. Dukes' current condition is not yet known, but he has been identified as the suspect responsible for the double murder.
Per department policy, Cpl. Givens has been placed on administrative leave as the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division continues its investigation into the incident.
