Summary
- 19-year-old faces new charges after a high-speed chase.
- Previous charges were dismissed by judges.
- Driver cited nervousness as reason for not stopping.

Nearly six months after his initial arrest, a 19-year-old Connecticut man, Nicholas Kreidel, is facing renewed charges stemming from a high-speed chase. Mattapoisett and Fairhaven police pursued Kreidel and his passengers on October 4, ultimately ordering them out of the vehicle at gunpoint. Charges now include reckless driving, failure to stop for police, and speeding. These are similar to charges previously dismissed by judges.
The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office has refiled the charges, though they have not elaborated on the reasons for refiling. During the incident, officers deployed spike strips to halt the vehicle. A police report detailed speeds reaching approximately 90 mph, significantly exceeding the speed limit, along with dangerous driving maneuvers. Kreidel reportedly told officers he attended a car event found on social media and did not stop due to nervousness, an explanation officers found invalid.
This incident occurred amidst a weekend of street takeover events across Massachusetts. Governor Maura Healey expressed a zero-tolerance stance on such activities, following other recent events that included a police cruiser being set ablaze in Boston and arrests in Fall River and Middleboro. Body camera footage from Fairhaven police captured officers deploying spike strips during the pursuit.
