A tragic shooting at STEAM Academy at McCluer South Berkeley High School in Ferguson, Missouri, has led to murder and assault charges against a 13-year-old. The incident unfolded on the evening of March 31, shortly after 7 p.m., as a track and field meet was drawing to a close. Police responded to reports of shots fired and discovered two juvenile victims with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital, where one 13-year-old victim was pronounced dead, and the other, a 15-year-old male, was admitted in serious condition.
Authorities apprehended a suspect, also a 13-year-old, approximately two blocks from the school, recovering a weapon. As of April 1, investigators stated that a motive had not yet been established, and the case remained active. The St. Louis County Family Court subsequently filed formal charges, including second-degree murder and assault, against the juvenile suspect. The Ferguson-Florissant School District confirmed that students from 20 schools participated in the track meet and assured families that no district students or staff were involved in the shooting, emphasizing their commitment to safety.
