Alongside the hotel boom, Bengal has also emerged as a leader in the homestay market, with 5,322 operational units and an additional 3,755 in the pipeline. This surge in homestay registrations has diversified the state's tourism offerings, providing visitors with more authentic and immersive experiences.
The state's tourism growth has been further bolstered by its thriving festival scene, particularly the iconic Durga Puja celebration, which generates an annual economic value of over ₹30,000 crore. Additionally, the state hosted 730 MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events last year, underscoring its appeal as a premier business and leisure destination.

Looking ahead, the West Bengal government is working on multiple projects to further boost tourism, with a focus on river tourism, luxury stays, and cultural experiences. Kolkata Port has announced plans for a world-class river cruise terminal, two new activity centers, and riverfront development projects, promising to enhance the state's appeal as a hub for water-based activities and leisure.
