Summary
- Sony Pictures' Q1 operating income up 76% to $129 million
- TV productions revenue up 39% to $841 million
- Motion picture revenue down 13% to $742 million

In the first quarter of 2025, Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) has seen a significant boost in its financial performance. The company's operating income for the period ending June 30th, 2025 has increased by 76% to $129 million, up from $73 million in the same quarter a year earlier.
This strong financial showing was driven by a robust performance in SPE's television productions division. Revenue from this segment grew by a healthy 39% to $841 million, up from $607 million in the comparable period. Some of SPE's notable TV productions during this quarter included Amazon Prime Video's Wheel of Time and The Narrow Road to the Deep North, HBO's The Last of Us, and Netflix's Department Q, The Creature Cases, and Yo No Soy Mendoza.
However, the company's motion pictures unit, which includes theatrical, home entertainment, and streaming sales, saw a 13% decline in revenue to $742 million from $852 million in the previous year's quarter. SPE released four theatrical movies globally during this period, including Until Dawn, Materialists (outside North America only), Karate Kid: Legends, and 28 Years Later.
Meanwhile, revenue from SPE's media networks division, which includes TV channels and digital channels, fell 4% to $674 million from $702 million. The company revealed that it ended the first quarter of 2025 with 40 television channels and 675.2 million total subscribers.
