Oracle Cuts 10% of India Workforce Amid Restructuring
19 Aug
Summary
- Oracle lays off nearly 10% of its India workforce
- Restructuring comes as Oracle partners with OpenAI
- Layoffs concentrated in software, cloud, and customer support

As of August 19th, 2025, the tech giant Oracle has laid off nearly 10% of its workforce in India, marking one of the company's biggest rounds of job cuts in the country. This restructuring comes even as Oracle recently announced a landmark partnership with OpenAI and held high-level discussions with former US President Donald Trump.
The layoffs at Oracle add to the growing list of global tech firms streamlining their operations this year. Companies like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have all announced significant job cuts, citing cost pressures, shifting business priorities, and increased investment in artificial intelligence.
In a June 2025 filing, Oracle stated that it periodically adjusts its workforce for strategic changes, reorganizations, or performance reasons. The company, which has long relied on India as a key talent hub, now employs around 28,824 people across major cities in the country. With close to one in ten of these staff members facing job cuts, the impact is substantial, particularly in functions such as software development, cloud services, and customer support.
Despite these layoffs, Oracle's partnership with OpenAI is expected to create new jobs and help advance US leadership in AI. The two companies have entered an agreement to develop 4.5 gigawatts of additional Stargate data center capacity in the United States, a move that will accelerate America's reindustrialization and deliver the benefits of AI to everyone.
