Nutrien Profits Surge as Corn Planting Booms in North America
6 Aug
Summary
- Nutrien's Q2 profit beats Wall Street estimates
- Potash sales jump 31% due to increased corn planting
- U.S. farmers expand corn acres to highest since 2013

As of August 6th, 2025, Nutrien, the global leader in potash production, has reported impressive financial results for the second quarter of the year. The company's adjusted profit per share of $2.65 exceeded the average analyst estimate of $2.40, thanks to a significant increase in demand for potash fertilizer.
The robust performance was largely driven by a surge in corn planting across North America. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, American farmers expanded their corn acreage by 5% this year, reaching the highest level since 2013. At the same time, soybean plantings declined by 4% to a five-year low. This shift in crop mix has translated into a 31% jump in Nutrien's potash sales, which reached $991 million in the three-month period ending June 30th.
Overall, Nutrien's total sales rose to $10.44 billion, up from $10.16 billion a year earlier. The Saskatoon, Canada-based firm is well-positioned to capitalize on the strong agricultural trends, solidifying its status as the world's premier potash supplier.
