North Lincolnshire Council Offers Free Air Fryers to Pensioners to Cut Energy Costs

North Lincolnshire Council is taking steps to support local pensioners struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. The council previously distributed 8,000 appliances during the previous winter, including 6,000 energy-efficient cooking gadgets such as air fryers. The authority invested over £650,000 in this initiative, drawing from a £2.3 million Government Household Support Fund grant.
Now, the council intends to revive the programme following discussions at a recent council meeting. Distribution of the devices is scheduled to commence in September. Qualifying pensioners will be able to register online or visit their local community centre to receive the appliances, which also include slow-cookers and single-cup kettles to help reduce their domestic expenses.
Council leader Rob Waltham described the initiative as having "proved hugely popular" and stated that the council is committed to supporting older residents during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. He emphasized that the cooking appliances made a difference to thousands of people last time and that thousands more pensioners will benefit from the revived programme.
