India's Digital Agriculture Mission Connects 70M Farmers to Land Records
17 Aug
Summary
- 70 million farmers now have digital IDs linked to land records
- Goal to cover 110 million farmers by 2027
- Digital IDs enable targeted schemes, credit access, insurance, and personalized agri-services

As of August 2025, India's Digital Agriculture Mission has successfully generated digital IDs for over 70 million farmers, linking them to their land records. This initiative, launched in September 2024, is part of a larger effort to create a robust digital agriculture ecosystem in the country.
The mission aims to provide digital IDs, referred to as Kisan Pehchaan Patra, to 110 million farmers across India by the end of the 2026-27 fiscal year. These IDs contain detailed information about the farmers' land holdings, crops grown, and other relevant data. This data is being used to design targeted schemes, improve access to agricultural credit and insurance, and deliver personalized agri-services to the farmers.
Currently, 14 states have already provided such digital IDs to their farmers, with Uttar Pradesh leading the way with 14 million IDs, followed by Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and others. The government is also working to onboard the remaining states, including Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab, to the initiative.
The digital IDs are part of the larger AgriStack project, which also includes the creation of databases for geo-referenced village maps, crop sown registry, and a comprehensive soil fertility and profile mapping. These digital tools are expected to revolutionize the way the government delivers agricultural services and benefits to the farmers.
