Delhi Commuters Brace for Traffic Chaos as Major Highway Projects Inaugurated
17 Aug
Summary
- Dwarka Expressway and UER-II inaugurated, costing nearly ₹11,000 crore
- Multiple roads including Rohtak Road and UER-II to remain closed for the day
- Commuters advised to use alternative routes and public transport

On August 17, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two significant highway projects in Delhi - the Dwarka Expressway and the Alipur-Dichaon Kalan stretch of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Developed at a cost of nearly ₹11,000 crore, these projects aim to improve connectivity, reduce congestion, and decrease travel time throughout the national capital and surrounding regions.
However, the inauguration of these projects has led to extensive traffic restrictions in several areas. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory, stating that multiple roads, including UER-II, Rohtak Road, and their connecting roads, will remain closed for the day. Commercial vehicles will not be permitted on Rohtak Road between Tikri Border and Peeragarhi, and alternative routes have been suggested for those travelling in the affected zones.
Residents of Rohini have been advised to use alternative routes such as K.N. Katju Marg and Rohini Jail Marg, as vehicles will not be permitted on roads coming from the Ring Road towards the area. The traffic police have also provided specific points for commercial vehicles to access the UER-II.
Commuters are urged to plan their travel in advance and consider using public transport, such as the Metro, to avoid inconvenience. The traffic restrictions are expected to be in place from 6 AM to 2 PM on August 17, 2025.
Despite the temporary disruptions, the inauguration of the Dwarka Expressway and UER-II is expected to bring a major boost to connectivity in Delhi-NCR, easing traffic congestion and benefiting daily commuters in the long run.
