Summary
- Foreign-branded phone sales in China down 31.3% year-on-year in June 2025
- Apple iPhone shipments decline amid overall 9.3% drop in China's phone sales
- China's phone market struggles as foreign brands lose ground

According to data released by a government-affiliated research firm, China's smartphone market has experienced a notable shift in recent months. In June 2025, the shipments of foreign-branded phones, including Apple's iPhone, declined by a staggering 31.3% compared to the same month a year earlier.
The data, compiled by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), shows that the shipments of these foreign-branded phones fell from 2.869 million units in June 2024 to just 1.971 million units in June 2025. This significant decline reflects the challenges faced by international brands in maintaining their foothold in the world's largest smartphone market.
The overall phone sales in China also saw a 9.3% drop, falling from 24.899 million units in June 2024 to 22.598 million units in June 2025. This broader market slowdown suggests that the challenges faced by foreign brands are part of a larger trend in the Chinese smartphone industry.
