SF's Beloved Yank Sing Shuts Spear Street Doors

Yank Sing, a historic San Francisco dim sum restaurant brand, is closing one of its prominent locations after 27 years of operation. The 101 Spear Street restaurant at Rincon Center will cease services on Sunday, September 20. This closure marks the end of an era for a spot that has hosted numerous celebrations and daily meals for the city's residents.

The restaurant shared the news on Instagram, expressing gratitude to patrons for countless memories. Yank Sing assured its loyal customer base that the brand is not disappearing, as its other location at 49 Stevenson Street will continue to serve its famous dim sum. This remaining establishment offers the same beloved cart service with both indoor and outdoor seating options.

The Rincon Center location, which opened in 1999, was the larger of Yank Sing's two San Francisco sites. The family-owned business, tracing its roots back to 1958, continues its multi-generational legacy. The founders, George and Alice Chan, established the restaurant after immigrating from China. The Stevenson Street location, which has been serving since 1974, remains operational following renovations.

Patrons have expressed sadness over the closure, reminiscing about significant life events, including wedding receptions held at the Spear Street venue. The co-owner, Vera Chan Waller, stated that the lease for the Rincon Center location has concluded. Yank Sing is known for its extensive menu of over 100 rotating dim sum dishes, served traditionally via push carts directly to tables, maintaining a unique dining experience.
