Xfinity Hack: $117.5M Settlement for 36M Customers
22 May
Summary
- Comcast agreed to a $117.5 million settlement over a 2023 cyberattack.
- Approximately 36 million Xfinity customers were affected by the breach.
- Eligible customers can claim $50 or up to $10,000 for documented losses.

A significant class-action lawsuit settlement has been reached, offering $117.5 million to roughly 36 million Xfinity customers impacted by a cyberattack in October 2023. Customers who were notified of the breach in December 2023 are eligible to file claims for compensation.
The settlement allows for two types of claims: an alternative cash payment of approximately $50, or up to $10,000 if claimants can document financial losses directly resulting from the breach. The initial deadline for filing has been extended to September 14, 2026.
The data stolen during the breach included usernames, passwords, names, contact details, birth dates, and the last four digits of Social Security numbers. In addition to monetary compensation, Comcast is mandated to provide identity defense services to all affected class members.
A final court approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for August 5, 2026. Customers who wish to opt out of the settlement to pursue individual legal action must do so by July 1, 2026. Failure to file a claim or opt out by the respective deadlines will forfeit compensation and legal recourse.
